that's not a bad description for what's happened here.
Late last year I was contacted by Brett Barris ... his father George Barris is the man behind "Barris Kustom Kars", the folks that created such well known Hollywood legends as the Batmobile, the Munsters Koach, Back to the Future's Time Traveling Delorean ... and the Bugaloo Buggy. In early January, I made a trip up to the Barris Kustom Kars Showroom, in North Hollywood, CA. Brett Barris was extremely nice and let me spend a few hours sifting through a box filled with pictures, articles and history about the Bugaloos ... some items which have not been seen in over 30 years!!! Naturally, the majority of the material was specific to the Bugaloo Buggy, including a News Release, and a number of photos ... some from car shows, some studio shots, some out in front of the Capitol building, including the cast, production crew, and Sid and Marty Krofft. One of the most startling things I found in the box were original drawings and photographs of a Bugaloo Bike, that apparently never made it into the series!! So, I have gone and created two new pages, one each for the Bugaloo Buggy, and the Bugaloo Bike, and also added them under "Cast Pages": Additionally, there were numerous shots of the cast ... some were the aforementioned photos out in front of the Capitol Building, others are full color shots taken on the set. Many of these will be made available for sale, courtesy of Barris Kustom Kars (thanks, Brett!!) Here are some sample color photos that we should have for sale in the next month or so:
John "I.Q." McIndoe (57k) John "Courage" Philpott (57k) Wayne "Harmony" Laryea (72k) Caroline "Joy" Ellis #1 (55k) Caroline "Joy" Ellis #2 (57k) Caroline "Joy" Ellis #3 (71k) Bugaloos Group Shot (71k)
Funky Rat, Woofer and Tweeter picket Kook Radio (180k) Last, we could find no information to suggest the Barris worked on Benita's car. It is entirely possible that another company built it, and hopefully someday we will find them, too!! |

The above sample color photos have been sent to the lab, but are not ready just yet. In the meantime, I have a small batch of additional photos obtained from Barris Kustom Kars. The majority of these stem from the same photo shoot in front of the Capitol Records Building in Hollywood, CA ... except that most of these are in color!!

Okay folks, the pics previously mentioned are now available for sale!! The lineup has changed slightly, so the "Bugaloo Buggy" picture (above) is not currently available. I have placed all the available pictures on a separate page: Also, Barris Kustom Kars has now opened their own website, http://www.barris.com/ ... so be sure to pay them a visit!! |
